Cranberry Lake
Cranberry Lake, located in the Western Adirondack Park of New York State is reached via NYS Route 3, approximately 3 hours from Syracuse, NY and 3 ½ hours from Albany, NY. The two nearest airports are Saranac Lake/Lake Clear (SLK), approximately one hour away, and Watertown (ART) approximately one and one half hours drive.
Cranberry Lake is the third largest lake in the Adirondack Park covering 11 square miles, and is one of the largest remote areas within the State. Approximately 75% of the 160+ miles of shoreline are State Forest Preserve. In addition to many island and shoreline campsites, there is a popular New York State campground, accessed on the Lone Pine Road just off Route 3. A New York State boat launch is located on the Columbian Road on the edge of the hamlet.
The Five Pond Wilderness area is located just South of Cranberry Lake. Hiking trails to many smaller lakes are reached by boat, and there are spectacular views of forests and lakes from surrounding mountain tops. There are miles of trails to explore in the area.
The Cranberry Lake shoreline is very irregular with interesting bays and islands, and the lake is home to a large population of loons, bass, pike and trout. Kayaking, canoeing, water-skiing, sailing and fishing are all popular activities on the lake. For the past several summers, a weekend bass tournament has brought many boaters to the area. In winter, Cranberry Lake is a great snowmobile hub, and there are miles of great cross country skiing.
The Cranberry Lake region is a great place for people who like a more remote area, who enjoy the outdoors, and a friendly community.
